Early Life

Terry Eugene Bollea (now Hulk Hogan) was born on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia. His father Pietro (Peter) Bollea was a construction foreman and his mother Ruth V. Bollea was a homemaker.

Hogan’s family moved to Port Tampa, Florida when he was only one and a half years old. As a child, he had a great interest in baseball and used to play as a pitcher in Little League Baseball.

With his playing skills, he caught the attention of several American professional baseball teams such as the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds.

But, an elbow injury ended his baseball career and prevented him from becoming a great baseball player. However, at the age of 16, his interest in professional wrestling began to emerge.

Dusty Rhodes was his idol when he was in high school. Along with wrestling, Hogan was also interested in music. He even spent a decade playing fretless bass guitar in many rock bands of Florida.

To complete his further studies, Hogan joined the University of South Florida. But when he found studies as a hindrance to his music career, he ended his studies without getting a degree.

In this sequence, Hogan, along with two local musicians, formed a band called Rukus, which later became very popular. It was in the list of best bands in Tampa Bay region.

As he was also conscious of physical fitness, he used to workout at Hector’s gym in Tampa. As a result, his body structure also started improving along with his height.

Hogan stepped into wrestling in 1977 and became the most famous wrestler in 1980.
