Pankaj, born on 17 May 1951 in Jeetpur, Gujarat, hailed from a humble background with his father working as a farmer. Growing up in a family where both his brothers were singers, Pankaj was immersed in a musical environment from an early age.
Despite his simple upbringing, Pankaj’s love for music became evident at the tender age of 6. His journey into the world of melody was nurtured by the musical atmosphere prevailing in his household.
In 2006, the Government of India acknowledged Pankaj Udhas’s significant contributions to music by conferring upon him the prestigious Padmashree award. Beyond his musical achievements, Pankaj also found love in his personal life, marrying Farida and becoming the father of three daughters.
Reflecting on his musical inception, Pankaj fondly recalled that his first exposure to the enchanting world of music began with the prayers he offered in school, creating a lifelong connection between spirituality and his musical journey. The roots of his art were deeply intertwined with the harmonious notes of devotion echoing through the corridors of his early education.
